Keep your head down. Stay in your lane. Mind your own business. Considering the tension and the anger, the outrage and the division, this seems like good advice.
And in this day and age, with all the upheaval in the world, it seems natural to look down every once in a while with a sigh of resignation. It can seem like we've strayed leagues away from truth, morality, and hope.
Jesus has a different encouragement. When he talks to his followers about the turmoil of the end times, he says, "When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near." - Luke 21:28.
Lord Jesus, you have given us hope and a reason to stand confidently in these last days. When world events, disasters, persecution, or suffering threaten to undermine our hope, tend to our souls and give us the boldness to live according to your purposes. Amen.
